Editorial Reviews

Plot Synopsis:
Maryann Breschard's provocative documentary tackles a meaty and debatable subject:   women's power.   Breschard skillfully lays out fact after fact surrounding women in politics and short-circuits all the cliches and rhetoric, leaving one impossible question:   If women are the majority of the population in the United States, why don't they simply vote themselves into power?   Breschard focuses her discussion around the quest of a young woman as she vies for public office in New York.  By showing the both the humorous disconnect of the candidate to the public and the public to the candidate, it is easy to see how the attainment of power is lost to women in the weeds of vanity, sex and marriage.

The film really shines during the interviews which include experts from both the left and right of the political spectrum   During the last half of the film, they are edited to great effect causing the film to pick up speed and intensity as it goes along.   Breschard's light touch makes Running in High Heels both enlightening and entertaining -- even to the men in the audience.
